Distinguished Physicians from Metro Pavia Health System (MPHS) Puerto Rico, visited Tortola, BVI to share the latest techniques on Medical Treatments. MPHS, the Largest Network of Hospitals in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, with 6 certified facilities specialized in International Patients through the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) celebrates its 15TH Annual Medical Symposium. The Symposium was attended by a crowded group of specialists from Peebles Hospital and renown local healthcare providers as Eureka and Bougainvillea Clinic amongst others; held at Maria’s By The Sea Conference Facilities in Road Town, Tortola.

Once Again MPHS has positioned itself at the vanguard of healthcare with its outstanding medical symposium. The guest speakers who presented current medical issues were:

The Learning objective of the symposium was to convey new techniques and present strategies in patient care. The topics discussed were:

  • HEAD AND NECK CANCER: THE UNKNOWN PRIMARY AND THE HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS
  • CONSEQUENCES OF PEDIATRIC OBESITY FROM CHILDHOOD TO ADULTHOOD
  • REPERFUSION STRATEGIES IN ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROMES AND MORE
  • SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF THYROID CANCER

During the last presentation headed by Dr. Reynold Lopez, Medical Director at Pavia Hato Rey facility he emphasized that Thyroid Cancer has one of the top incidence rates in the United States and Puerto Rico. This type of cancer occupies the third position in Puerto Rico and the fourth in the United States in incidents, being more common in woman.

“Thanks to early detection in the treatable stage, through the use of Sonogram, this is operable without the necessity of Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy Treatment. Nowadays a present controversy exists regarding the treatment indications or recommendations to follow. A good and on time diagnostic will allow us to save lives.” An increase of a 10% of participation was observed in comparison to last year. All type of healthcare professionals attended the conference; including Local Physicians, Nurses, and other Healthcare Professionals employed at local insurance companies and who offer their services in the Public and Private Sector in the BVI. The speakers had the opportunity to interact with the participants during the lunch break.

Metro Pavia Health System in conjunction with the VI Dental and Medical Council Offered five (5) contact hours to all participating physicians and nurses, who attends to the whole event, free of cost.
